Climbing mount agung, part 1
A plan by Ansa to climb the highest peak of Bali during our visit there. I haven't climbed any mountain, but the idea of standing on top of Bali, 3142 m above sea level, excites me very much.
We called Tegteg, a name we could find in Lonely Planet to be our climbing guide. For the sake of publicising his brand, here's his number (in case you need a guide) +62 81 338 525 677.
Anyways, we arrived at Selat in the afternoon around 4 pm. A small village at the foot of mount agung. When mount agung erupted in 1963, I guess this village was affected by the lava, at least the ashes. In the afternoon, the best activity to do in this village is going out with a motorcycle then stop at the river near the exit of the village. Take off the clothes, and feel the refreshing water which flows from the mountain. At night, just sit in the hut by the paddy field... listen to the crickets and see the fireflies flying around while drinking sands (beer + sprite).
We woke up at 1.30am, had a breakfast at Tegteg's place at 2.00am. Our plan was to start climbing at 3.00am so that we could catch the sunrise at 6.00am. We had one backpack containing 3ltrs water + cameras + torch lights + canang (for prayer), jacket, gloves and head lights. We went by a bemo to Pura pasar agung at the height of 1500m above sea level where our starting point would be.
